The global demand for metal aggregates remains unabated with continued pressure on existing quarrying operations.
Just to put things in perspective here are some facts re the aggregates needs for construction applications alone In China & India.
A reminder aggregates are the most mined materials in the world and the second 'most in demand' resource after water.
China is in a construction mega-boom. The country has the largest building market in the world, making up 20% of all construction investment globally. China is expected to spend nearly USD 13 trillion on buildings by 2030.
Additionally, in India, massive urbanisation is expected to happen in the next decade, pushing the demand for the aggregates in the construction sector as that country kick-starts a mind boggling 100-MegaCity construction program, which is expected contribute greatly for the aggregates demand in the country during the forecast period.

On the other hand New Zealand's aggregates supply remains steady according to the NZTA however the sustainability factor is no affecting existing quarrying entities - how long can they continue?
The NZTA says ' The aggregates sector needs to be more sustainable in its planning and sourcing of aggregates, and managing the land use and environmental effects of extraction.
Some of the issues include:
• Not understanding the influences on aggregate supply and demand
• Industry decision making about the use of aggregate products and methods of extraction
• Perceptions that recycled materials are inferior, as well as organisations’ risk averseness and reluctance to share risk
• Little long-term planning and forecasting of demand requirements'
Auckland Aggregates GM, Dave Stringfield says there is no better time than now to commit to the sustainability of using recycled road millings.
" There is little doubt cost related pressures are mounting on existing virgin quarried product not to mention counter sustainability factors. This is where high quality recycled aggregates fit comfortably into the GAP market place. Our recycled range is extremely cost effective and demonstrate optimum sustainability", says Dave Stringfield.
Auckland Aggregates is committed to the ongoing sustainability of aggregate supply. Because of this the company's main focus is on re-using milled road aggregates through the entire GAP range - GAP7-10, GAP20, GAP40 (ATAP40) and GAP65(ATAP65).
"Across the grades sustainably produced re-cycled aggregates are equal if not superior in some cases to existing virgin quarried product", says Dave Stringfield.
The housing construction in New Zealand is the major user of aggregates material, followed by roading and ancillary market use such as drain-laying, other infrastructure and landscaping.
